# A24 Sets Chris Rock’s 'Misty Green' for TIFF and October

*Chris Rock’s next film, 'Misty Green,' is headed to Toronto’s Gala section before A24 opens it later this year, with reports pointing to an October 2026 release. The trailer gives Rosalind Eleazar a bruised, hard-used star turn and puts a lot of weight on what a comeback costs.*

## A24 puts 'Misty Green' on the road to Toronto
A24 has set Chris Rock’s *Misty Green* for a world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and says the film will open later this year. Deadline puts the release in October 2026. That is the news here, and it matters because Rock is back behind the camera after more than a decade, while Rosalind Eleazar gets the kind of part that can make or break a career if the room around her is not alive to it.

The trailer, which arrived on July 22, 2026, presents Eleazar as Misty Green, an actress whose early break has curdled into a scramble for the next call. A24, IndieWire, Deadline, Yahoo and First Showing all point to the same broad shape: this is a Hollywood story about a woman trying to get back in the door after she has already been shut out once.

## Rosalind Eleazar gets the heavy lift
What the role asks of Eleazar is plain enough. She has to carry talent, embarrassment, anger, vanity and need, often in the same breath. Misty is shown trying to land work, looking for escape, and moving through rooms where every face seems to know her business better than she wants.

That is where the best casting choices get tricky. The actor has to suggest that a person still has value before the script says so out loud. The trailer gives Misty one of those roles that can turn into a public argument if the actor does not sell it. She is not being asked to play innocence. She is being asked to play a woman who has history on her, and history is expensive.

The reports say Misty’s past includes an on-set altercation with another cast member, which leaves her, in the film’s world, a hard sell. An agent in the trailer sounds as if the phone itself is tired of the whole thing. That detail does the useful work. It tells you this is not only about hurt feelings or pride. It is about a job market that can close fast when one story gets attached to a name.

## Chris Rock returns to directing after 2014’s 'Top Five'
Rock’s return behind the camera gives the piece its second pressure point. His last feature as director was 2014’s *Top Five*. Before that came *Head of State* and *I Think I Love My Wife*. He also wrote *Top Five*, and Deadline says he wrote *Misty Green* as well.

The reports describe him here as playing Jordan, a filmmaker with the right role for Misty and a difficult past with her. That is a neat little trap for an actor who is also directing. He has to split the frame between the person who wants the part and the person who is handing it out. That is where the story gets its sting.

The cast around Eleazar is loaded: Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, Topher Grace, and Rock himself. Yahoo’s report notes Kaluuya’s live-action return after *Nope* in 2022. That is the sort of supporting cast that can make a comeback story feel like a real working town, not a postcard. It also means every scene asks somebody to know exactly how much to give and how much to withhold.

## The movie keeps circling one blunt fact about Hollywood
TIFF says the film “satirizes the bigotry and hustle at the heart of Hollywood.” I will not pretend to have seen the finished thing, but the premise is honest enough to make me hopeful. The industry has never lacked stories about second chances. It has always been choosier about who gets them.

The trailer’s version of that world is built from small humiliations: a role that vanishes, a past that follows, a line about not getting on *Law and Order* right now, a moment of being told to leave somebody else’s apartment. Those are tiny facts on paper. Onscreen, they are where money, status and fear usually sit.

That is also why the film’s cast list feels like more than decoration. An actor in Misty’s position is never dealing with one decision. She is dealing with a chain of them, each one made by a different person in a different room, each one carrying a different kind of cost. The money goes to the people who can still be hired, the people who can still be insurable, the people who can still make a set move. The people who feel it are the ones waiting for a call back that never comes.

## A24’s fall slate gives the release window some company
A24 is not putting *Misty Green* out there alone. The company is also setting Anthony Bourdain’s *Tony* for an August release, while *Primetime* with Robert Pattinson, Jesse Eisenberg’s *The Debut*, and Jordan Firstman’s *Club Kid* are moving through the fall festival circuit, according to the reports.

So the window for *Misty Green* is not a mystery in the broad sense. TIFF first. A24 release later this year. October, if Deadline is right. That is enough to mark on the calendar and enough to keep the stakes clear. Chris Rock is back directing. Rosalind Eleazar has the center chair. A24 has put the movie in the awards-season lane. And somewhere in the middle of all that, Misty Green is still trying to get back into the room.
