# Gal Gadot Backs AI ‘Bitcoin’ and Nears a Wonder Woman Exit

*Gadot says actors must work with AI or leave the game, though she spent six months shielding her own performance from it. She also says another Wonder Woman film no longer fits her life.*

By Dorothy Kwan, 2026-09-07 · The Argument

Gal Gadot defended starring in Doug Liman’s AI-assisted thriller *Bitcoin* in an interview reported August 31 and September 1, while casting serious doubt on ever playing Wonder Woman again. The $70 million production used AI for sets and lighting; Gadot says her lawyers spent six months making sure the technology could not alter her acting. She also told Ynet that disappearing into another Wonder Woman shoot no longer works with four children in different schools. For film readers, the two declarations belong together: Gadot will accept a production system built to remove physical work from the frame, but she has nearly closed the door on the role that made her a franchise star.

## Gal Gadot protects her performance, but AI gets the room

Gadot’s defence of *Bitcoin* contains a boundary sharp enough to cut paper. AI can make the sets. AI can handle the lighting. AI cannot touch Gal Gadot.

“This was the longest contract I have ever worked on,” she said on Josh Horowitz’s *Happy Sad Confused* podcast, according to TheWrap. Her lawyers spent six months considering ways the technology might interfere with her performance. Gadot said SAG later contacted them for advice on protections for other actors.

That legal marathon gives the game away. The sales pitch says inevitability; the contract says danger. Gadot told Horowitz that she fears AI but refuses to look away from it. “The train has left the station,” she said. Work with the technology, in her formulation, or wind up “out of the game completely.”

You can admire the candour and still notice who bought a ticket and who may end up beneath the wheels. The A.V. Club characterized the production’s AI use as replacing work normally done by set and lighting crews. Gadot insisted that *Bitcoin* employed a large crew. The reporting does not give a department-by-department count, so it does not settle how many jobs the system kept, changed or removed.

## Doug Liman’s $70 million gray box promises 200 locations

The cast — Gadot, Casey Affleck, Pete Davidson and Isla Fisher — worked inside a former car showroom lined with gray screen, according to Yahoo. The production called it the “gray box.” Actors never travelled to the story’s roughly 200 locations; backgrounds and lighting came later.

Producer Ryan Kavanaugh claims a conventional shoot would have cost more than $300 million, Yahoo reported, putting the claimed saving above $200 million. TheWrap reported that the production shot for 20 days on a custom soundstage and cost $70 million. Those savings come from the filmmakers, not an independent audit.

Gadot liked the speed. Without conventional lighting changes, she said, the actors could continue for ten hours and stay emotionally warm. She compared the near-empty space to theatre and called the process pure. Then came the useful pinprick: she had not seen a single shot.

So nobody should describe the finished result yet, including Gadot. The movie may look miraculous, synthetic or like a cryptocurrency advert trapped inside a screensaver. At present, it is a costly promise rendered in gray.

## *Bitcoin* reopens the Craig Wright argument Hollywood cannot settle

The technology is only half the combustible package. Cointribune reports that the film follows Gadot as a journalist investigating Craig Wright, with Affleck playing Wright and Davidson playing his longtime supporter Calvin Ayre. The outlet says the story favors Wright’s claim that he created Bitcoin under the name Satoshi Nakamoto, and that Ayre helped finance the film.

A British court rejected Wright’s claim in 2024 and found that documents supporting his case had been forged, as Cointribune reported. A feature film cannot reverse that judgment. It can, however, package a rejected account with stars, chases and handsome digital weather until an old falsehood acquires the posture of entertainment.

Cointribune also reported that the film had no confirmed US distributor as of September 4. That leaves its reach unknown. The filmmakers have built a globe-trotting thriller without globetrotting; they have not yet secured the final trip into American cinemas.

## Wonder Woman no longer fits Gadot’s life

Gadot told Ynet that another Wonder Woman production may demand more time away than she will now give. With four children attending different schools, she said, checking out of family life for an extended shoot “doesn’t work for my life anymore.” This is not a formal retirement announcement. It is a practical refusal with very little cape left fluttering in it.

She also criticized DC’s treatment of director Patty Jenkins and former Superman actor Henry Cavill during the studio transition, calling neither case elegant, according to Ynet. TheWrap reported that Gadot said DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran had asked her to return for a third film, but she had watched how others were handled.

There is the reversal worth keeping. Wonder Woman, a physical production whose boots Gadot wore across several films, now asks too much of her life. *Bitcoin*, shot in a gray room with the world added afterward, offers ten uninterrupted hours of acting and a contract that walls off her face, voice and gestures. The future, apparently, arrives as an empty car showroom — and six months of lawyers deciding which parts of you may enter it.
