# Gil Bellows Sets Three VFS Scene Study Weekends for Fall

*Vancouver Film School is bringing Gil Bellows back for three fall Scene Study weekends, with sessions set for Sept. 25-27, Oct. 16-18, and Nov. 6-8. The real news is the shape of the offer: a selective, on-campus acting workshop with prices, audition tape rules, and a hard split between observers and participants.*

Gil Bellows is headed back to Vancouver Film School for three Scene Study weekends this fall, with dates set for Sept. 25-27, Oct. 16-18, and Nov. 6-8. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel carried the announcement on Aug. 28, and KelownaNow listed the first weekend as an event with fixed prices and a narrow gate. For film readers, that matters because this is not a vague celebrity appearance dressed up as training. It is a recurring, selective acting program built around scenes, notes, and on-camera work.

## Bellows Returns to VFS
VFS says Bellows will lead three exclusive Scene Study weekends at its Film Production Centre, building on previous workshops at the school. The announcement frames the series as part of VFS's In-Production Bootcamp line, which is the kind of title that sounds like it came out of a meeting and probably did. Still, the structure underneath it is plain enough.

Each weekend runs three days. The first one lands Sept. 25-27, with the next two on Oct. 16-18 and Nov. 6-8. VFS says the format is meant for aspiring and established actors, and the pitch is not for passive attendance. It is for people who want live direction, professional feedback, and on-set performances in a working production setting.

## What the Scene Study Actually Buys
The publicity language leans hard on words like immersive and exclusive, but the mechanics are the useful part. VFS says the weekend starts Friday evening with introductions and a meet-and-greet. Saturday belongs to scene study workshops, where participants work through selected scenes under Bellows' direction. Sunday ends with on-set performances of the final scenes.

That is the job, stripped of gloss. You show up, meet the man, do the scenes, take the notes, and then put the work in front of the camera. The school says the point is to mirror professional film production, which is fair enough. It also means the event is selling process, not fantasy. No fake glamour. No talk of destiny. Just repetition, pressure, correction, and a camera waiting at the end of it.

KelownaNow's event listing adds a small but telling wrinkle: the workshop is split between observers and advanced acting participants. That is where the marketing stops pretending this is for everybody in the same way. Some people watch. Some people do the scenes.

## Gil Bellows' Resume Does the Selling
Bellows is not being asked to sell this with mystery. The copy does that for him. The press release points to more than two decades of work across film and television, and it names The Shawshank Redemption, Ally McBeal, American Gods, The Handmaid's Tale, Patriot, and The Twilight Zone. It also says he won a Primetime Emmy for Temple Grandin.

KelownaNow puts one more credential in the frame: Bellows gained wide attention for playing Tommy in The Shawshank Redemption, and it notes that his role as Billy Thomas in Ally McBeal earned a Screen Actors Guild Award. That is the sort of resume that does not need much perfume. It tells you why a school would want him in the room and why actors would pay attention.

There is also a neat bit of branding here. VFS calls Bellows an actor, director, and Emmy-winning producer. That stack of titles is doing double duty. It makes him sound useful in three different lanes, and it lets the school sell the weekend as both craft class and industry contact. The promise is not fame by osmosis. It is contact with someone who has done the work in front of the camera and behind it.

## The Price of Entry at VFS Campus
KelownaNow's listing is where the soft language gets pinned down by numbers. Observers pay $100. Solo acting participants pay $300. Duo acting participants pay $550 per duo. The event runs Friday from 6 to 7 p.m., then Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at VFS Campus.

The entry rules are even stiffer than the price sheet. Participants need prior acting training or experience, and they must submit a short audition tape. The listing says that solo applicants will be paired with another actor by VFS. It also says advanced participants will select a short scene in advance, then workshop and rehearse it before on-camera performances on Sunday.

That is the actual sale here: a controlled room, a short run, and a chance to be judged while doing the work. The rest is gloss. The only part that really lands is the one-minute contemporary film monologue or dialogue VFS wants on tape before the first weekend even starts.
