# Rebecca Yarros’ Screen Slate Expands From ‘Fourth Wing’ to Six Adaptations

*Prime Video, Amazon MGM, Apple TV, Lionsgate and Netflix are developing screen versions of Rebecca Yarros’ novels, with projects ranging from a dragon-rider fantasy series to a WWII romance. Here is what each adaptation has attached—and what remains unknown.*

By CinePixo, 2026-09-05 · Industry

Rebecca Yarros now has six books in development for film and television, according to Deadline’s September 4, 2026 overview. Prime Video is building the five-book Empyrean saga that begins with *Fourth Wing*, while Amazon MGM is adapting *Variation* and *The Last Letter*. Apple TV has taken the rights to the forthcoming *Peculiar Stars*, Lionsgate is moving ahead with *The Things We Leave Unfinished*, and Netflix has *In the Likely Event*. For readers watching Hollywood’s current rush toward romance adaptations, Yarros’ slate offers a useful split-screen: one fantasy franchise with a major producer attached, and five contemporary or historical love stories at different stages of development.

## Prime Video’s ‘Fourth Wing’ Still Has No Cast or Premiere Date

The Empyrean adaptation remains at Prime Video with Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, Lisa Joy’s Kilter Films and Premediated Productions producing, Deadline reports. Meredith Averill, an executive producer on *Wednesday* Season 2, is now guiding the series after a showrunner change. Moira Walley-Beckett had previously been attached as showrunner and executive producer.

Rebecca Yarros is an executive producer, and she has spoken warmly about earlier scripts. AOL reported that Yarros read two versions and said she loved them, while Variety previously quoted her praising Walley-Beckett’s handling of the material. Those comments predate the change in leadership, so the current script situation is not clear.

Casting and a release date have not been announced. Yarros told fans that the production did not yet have a casting director and said it was important to her that marginalized characters not disappear from the cast. Rumors about Xaden have circulated online, but no actor is attached in the reporting here.

The books keep moving while the show waits. IGN reports that *Threshing Day (Wing and Claw Collection)* arrives September 29, 2026, with 13 stories about fan-favorite characters during their dragon-bonding trials. Xaden’s story will be included. Yarros is also writing the fourth Empyrean novel, though no publication date has been set.

## Amazon MGM Has Two Very Different Yarros Movies

Amazon MGM is adapting *Variation*, Yarros’ novel set in the ballet world. Christy Hall, who wrote *It Ends With Us*, is scripting. Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground and Misty Copeland’s Life in Motion Productions are producing, with Yarros attached as an executive producer, according to Deadline.

The same studio won the rights to *The Last Letter* after what Deadline described as a high-value bidding war. Former journalist Anna Klassen is writing the screenplay, and Brian Grazer and Jeb Brody of Imagine Entertainment are producing. The material does not include a cast, director or production timetable for either film, so both remain in the writing-and-packaging phase as far as the current reports show.

That pairing gives Amazon MGM two separate lanes into Yarros’ readership: *Variation* brings professional dance into the adaptation, while *The Last Letter* arrives with a competitive rights sale but no announced stars.

## Apple TV’s ‘Peculiar Stars’ Starts With a 543-Day Isolation Romance

Apple TV landed the rights to *Peculiar Stars*, Deadline reported before the novel’s November 17 publication date. The story strands a young woman and a member of her fiancé’s family on a deserted island after a cyclone. Their isolation lasts 543 days, and the romance is built as a slow burn.

There are no announced writer, director or cast details in the report. That makes *Peculiar Stars* the newest project in the group, with its source novel not yet published at the time of the rights announcement. The hook is unusually clean for a screen pitch: a natural disaster, a remote setting and a relationship that begins under an impossible family complication.

## Lionsgate and Netflix Take the More Familiar Romance Routes

Lionsgate’s *The Things We Leave Unfinished* has moved further along. Deadline reports that Arash Amel is writing the feature, Todd Lieberman is producing through Hidden Pictures, and Thea Sharrock is directing. The Hollywood Reporter says Sharrock, whose credits include *Me Before You*, has signed on to helm the film.

The story follows 28-year-old Georgia Stanton, who returns home after a public divorce and works with an arrogant bestselling author to finish her late great-grandmother’s WWII love story. Yarros is executive producing through Full Measures Productions. The project has a director and screenplay, but the material does not identify a cast or release date.

Netflix holds the rights to *In the Likely Event*, with Lindsey Ferrentino writing, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 2023 novel centers on Nate, a U.S. soldier, and Izzy, a congressional aide, whose romance unfolds against the war in Afghanistan. No director, cast or timing has been reported.

Taken together, these projects show why Yarros’ name is traveling so quickly from bookstore shelves to studio offices. *Fourth Wing* is the large-scale bet, complete with dragons and a franchise plan. The other five adaptations depend on recognizable romantic engines—ballet, family secrets, wartime love, forced isolation and a military romance. The first concrete date belongs not to a screen release but to *Threshing Day*: September 29, when Yarros’ next Empyrean stories reach readers before Prime Video has even named its riders.
