It is an adaptation of the novel The Sun of Kurobe that dramatizes the construction of the massive Kurobe Dam, the tallest dam in Japan. The film was Japan's submission to the 41st Academy Awards for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but was not accepted as a nominee.
