Animal

Animal is a 2023 drama film written and directed by Sofia Exarchou. Her second feature after Park (2016), the film stars Dimitra Vlagopoulou as Kalia, the head of a troupe of animateurs (entertainers) at an all-inclusive resort hotel on an unnamed Greek island. Animal premiered in the International Competition of the 76th Locarno Film Festival on 3 August 2023, where Vlagopoulou won the Pardo for Best Performance. It subsequently won the Golden Alexander at the 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival — the first Greek film to receive the top prize at Thessaloniki in thirty years — and was theatrically released in Greece on 8 February 2024 by Weird Wave.
