Synopsis
Sleeping Dogs is a 1977 New Zealand action political thriller film directed by Roger Donaldson, originally based on C. K. Stead's 1971 New Zealand novel Smith's Dream. Starring Sam Neill, Ian Mune, and Warren Oates, it was the first feature-length 35 mm colour film produced entirely in New Zealand. It was a major critical and commercial success both domestically and comparatively abroad, and launched the career of Neill into subsequent international stardom.
