Dan Stevens Takes RoboCop Back to Prime Video With a Human Job
Prime Video’s RoboCop series has found its Alex Murphy in Dan Stevens. The casting puts a restless genre actor inside one of sci-fi’s strangest helmets.

Dan Stevens has been cast as Alex Murphy in Prime Video’s new RoboCop television series, with AOL reporting the news on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after Deadline confirmed the casting. Yahoo, citing Deadline, reported that Stevens will play both Murphy and RoboCop in the Amazon MGM Studios revival. That matters because this is not just another old title being dusted off. RoboCop is a role built around a face we barely get, a body turned into property, and a man trying to claw his way back through metal, orders, and company language. For an actor, that is a hard lunch.
Dan Stevens Gets the Alex Murphy Job
AOL reported that Stevens will lead Prime Video’s new series inspired by the original 1980s RoboCop films. Yahoo reported that the 43-year-old English actor will take over the role first played by Peter Weller in Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 film.
That is the clean news. The interesting part is what the job asks of him.
RoboCop is a famous suit, yes, but it is also a famous absence. The actor has to suggest the man under the machinery before the story can mourn him, and then has to make the machinery feel like a prison with a badge. If the show stays close to the old shape of the story, Stevens will have to give us Alex Murphy with enough warmth that his loss has weight, then keep some ember of that warmth alive after the world calls him a product.
AOL reported that Stevens confirmed the casting on social media with a photo of himself, newly buzzed blond, posing near a NECA figure of RoboCop. The caption nodded to the old line about coming in dead or alive. It is the sort of post an actor can make when he knows the audience already hears the footfalls.

Prime Video’s RoboCop Has Eight Episodes and Peter Ocko
Yahoo reported that Amazon MGM Studios greenlit the project in July 2026, after the series had spent two years in development. The show comes from showrunner Peter Ocko and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with Yahoo reporting that Ocko wrote the eight-episode series.
According to AOL, James Wan is an executive producer. Yahoo reported that Ocko, Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett will executive produce through Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with Danielle Bozzone as co-executive producer. Yahoo also reported that Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, who co-wrote the original RoboCop, are executive producers on the new series.
