Hayden Panettiere Dies at 36, Leaving Heroes and Nashville Behind
The actress moved from child roles to Claire Bennet, Juliette Barnes and Kirby Reed, carrying parts that asked for bright nerve and bruised feeling. Tributes from Viola Davis, Bethany Joy Lenz and her Scream colleagues remembered the person behind the screen work.

Hayden Panettiere, the actress known to film and television readers for Heroes, Nashville, Remember the Titans and the Scream films, has died at 36. AOL reported that she died on Aug. 16, 2026, and ITV News reported that a representative confirmed her death the following Monday. Fox News Digital reported that no cause of death had been announced. For anyone who grew up around screens in the last 30 years, Panettiere was one of those faces that seemed to arrive early and then keep finding new rooms to walk into: the football kid, the cheerleader who could not be broken, the country singer with a smile sharp enough to draw blood.
Hayden Panettiere's Family Asked for Privacy After Her Death
ITV News reported that Panettiere's father, Skip Panettiere, shared a family statement remembering her as an "incredible light" and asking for privacy while the family processed the loss. The statement also said she brought love and joy to people who knew her and to the millions who watched her work.
Fox News Digital reported that Panettiere was in Greenville, South Carolina, when first responders were called for an unresponsive woman. According to Fox News Digital, the Greenville County Coroner's Office said emergency medical workers found a female in cardiac arrest and that resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. The outlet reported that she was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m.
Fox News Digital also reported that preliminary autopsy results found no signs of trauma that contributed to her death, and that the cause and manner remained pending. Forbes reported that Greenville police said the preliminary investigation had not indicated foul play or suspicious circumstances. That is where the public facts sit. The piece does not know more than that.
Panettiere is survived by her daughter, Kaya, whom Fox News Digital reported was born in 2014 with Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko. ITV News reported that Panettiere's daughter is 11.

Claire Bennet Made Panettiere a TV Face People Remembered
AOL wrote that Panettiere's widest TV fame came with Claire Bennet on NBC's Heroes, which ran from 2006 to 2010. Claire was the high school cheerleader with regenerative healing, the girl who could recover from injuries that should have ended her. In a superhero story crowded with powers, that one asked something very specific of an actor: you had to make the audience feel pain even when the body would heal.
