Irina Shayk Brings a 2003 Lace-Up D&G Dress to Venice

Shayk’s archival Dolce & Gabbana gown exposed black lingerie beneath side cutouts running from her arms to her thighs. The all-black look brought an unmistakable piece of early-2000s fashion onto the 83rd Venice Film Festival red carpet.

Irina Shayk arrived at the 83rd Venice Film Festival in a black Dolce & Gabbana dress whose laced side openings ran nearly the length of her body. AOL reported the appearance on September 7, 2026, identifying the gown as a Spring/Summer 2003 design. For film readers, the choice matters because Venice’s red carpet is part of the festival’s public face: before anybody sits down in the dark, actors, models and filmmakers meet the cameras outside. Shayk met them in a dress more than two decades old, built around satin, exposed skin and enough black cord to keep a stagehand busy.

Irina Shayk Wore Dolce & Gabbana From Spring 2003

According to AOL, the fitted gown came from Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring/Summer 2003 collection. It had a deep scoop neckline and fell below Shayk’s knees, with small flared panels giving the hem some room to move.

The front kept a fairly clean line. The sides did the talking.

Open sections began beneath Shayk’s arms and continued beyond her hips and thighs. Thin black laces crossed those gaps in a corset pattern, leaving parts of the black lingerie underneath visible. The ties continued toward the bottom of the dress.

That construction asks something unusual of the person wearing it. Shayk had to carry a gown that depends on posture from every camera angle, including the angles a wearer cannot see. A conventional side seam will quietly do its job. This one had apparently called in sick.

Black Tights Gave the Archival Gown Its 2000s Finish

Shayk wore opaque black tights beneath the dress and added pointed black stiletto pumps, AOL reported. The tights made the styling feel tied to the period that produced the gown rather than disguising its age or trying to pass it off as a new design.

Almost everything remained black, but two pieces broke up the color. A broad crystal-covered choker sat at her neck, while an oversized ring carried a blue gemstone. Her dark hair was worn down, center-parted and set in full waves. Defined eyes and a glossy nude lip completed the beauty look, according to AOL.

None of those pieces had an easy assignment. The necklace had to hold its own above a plunging neckline, and the blue stone had to register against an outfit designed to absorb nearly every other color around it. Both were small interruptions in a very deliberate block of black.

The Venice Dress Put the Work of Wearing It in Plain Sight

Red-carpet clothes can appear effortless because the labor has already happened elsewhere: the fitting, the fastening, the choice of shoes, the decision about what can survive several minutes under lights and cameras. Shayk’s gown did not conceal all that engineering. Its laces made the act of holding a dress together part of what people saw.

The design also left little room for a careless turn. With openings extending down both sides, the fit through the waist and hips had to remain exact while Shayk stood and moved for photographers. That is part of a model’s job on a carpet like Venice. The garment may be the news, but a person still has to make its many moving parts behave.

AOL credited the photographs to Jean Baptiste Lacroix of FilmMagic. Its report described Shayk posing on the festival carpet in the head-to-toe black look; it did not identify a film premiere connected to her appearance.

Dolce & Gabbana Has Been a Repeat Choice for Shayk

The Venice gown was not Shayk’s only recent black Dolce & Gabbana look. Yahoo reported on July 19, 2026, that she had posed for D la Repubblica in an off-the-shoulder micro minidress by the label.

That dress took a different route. It had long sleeves, a very short hem and a close fit, with white tights cutting against the black fabric. Shayk wore a scarf around her neck, black heels, a sleek bun and red lipstick, according to Yahoo.

Placed beside the Venice appearance, the earlier shoot shows two uses of the same basic palette. The minidress relied on its short hem, covered arms and white tights. The 2003 gown used a longer skirt but opened nearly everything along the sides. One kept its structure tight and compact; the other turned its fastenings outward for the cameras.

At Venice, the oldest element became the clearest piece of news. A dress first sent down a runway in 2003 returned with every black lace visible, each one doing the humble and rather important work of keeping the evening together.
