Netflix Brings Guillaume Canet Back For Ad Vitam Sequel
Ad Vitam Eternam is now in production, with Guillaume Canet returning as Franck Lazareff and Sophie Marceau, Mathieu Amalric and Nicolas Duvauchelle joining the cast.

Netflix has started production on a sequel to Ad Vitam, the 2025 French action-thriller that turned Guillaume Canet’s Franck Lazareff into one of the streamer’s bigger non-English film bets.
Deadline reported that the follow-up is working under the title Ad Vitam Eternam, with Canet back as the former elite agent and Ludovic Colbeau-Justin taking over directing duties from Rodolphe Lauga. Cineuropa also reported that principal photography has begun, with the production set across several French regions.
Franck Lazareff Is Back In Trouble
The new film picks up after the first Ad Vitam, which ended with Franck released from prison after his wife produced evidence clearing his name. Deadline reported that the sequel begins after Franck survives an assassination attempt following that release.
The official synopsis, cited by Deadline, Variety and Cineuropa, puts him in familiar hard-pressure territory: he wants to know who wants him dead, hides with his family in the mountains, and is found by French intelligence services. Their offer is blunt enough for this kind of movie: carry out a covert mission, and they will give him the truth he is chasing.
That is a clean sequel engine. Ad Vitam was built around a man yanked back into violence by a personal emergency. Ad Vitam Eternam appears to keep the same pressure point, but shifts the lever from rescue to reckoning. Franck is no longer only trying to save his family. He is trying to learn why the danger keeps following them.

Netflix Is Treating Ad Vitam Like A Real Asset
The sequel makes sense because Ad Vitam performed like the kind of title Netflix wants to keep alive. Deadline reported that the first film generated about 54 million views during its first month on the platform after its January 10, 2025 release.
Cineuropa reported that Ad Vitam later entered Netflix’s top ten most popular non-English films globally, accumulating 63.1 million views and 103 million hours viewed according to Netflix viewing data. Variety said the first film climbed to No. 9 on the streamer’s most popular non-English film chart.
For readers who track Netflix’s international action lane, that matters. This is not just a polite renewal for a regional performer. It is Netflix France moving fast on a film that found a wide audience without needing a pre-sold comic book, game, or English-language star package.
