Ram Gopal Varma and Mohit Suri Mix Romance With Gangster Drama
On September 13, Ram Gopal Varma announced a new film collaboration with Saiyaara director Mohit Suri, describing it as a “love dish” filled with “gangster curry.” The project has no title or plot yet, but the pairing has already revived calls for Varma’s Satya-era crime stories.

Ram Gopal Varma and Mohit Suri are making a film together, and Varma has given the first clue in the form of a lunch special: romance, music and gangster drama. On Sunday, September 13, Varma posted a selfie with Suri on X and said their “love dish” would be “full of gangster curry,” with more details coming soon.
That is the news. There is no title, cast announcement or release date yet. Still, film readers have a reason to pay attention: Varma is associated with hard-edged crime films such as Satya and Company, while Suri’s recent Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has put his romantic and musical instincts back in the conversation. The question is not what the film is yet. It is what these two styles might ask of each other.
Ram Gopal Varma’s “love dish” arrives before the menu
As the Free Press Journal reported, Varma wrote on X that he and “#Saiyaara’s @mohit11481” were cooking together for Suri’s next film. His message promised that details would be “served very very soon.” The wording was playful, but the collaboration itself was presented as confirmed.
That leaves a lot of empty plates. The filmmakers have not said whether Varma is directing, producing, writing or filling another role on the project. The report also does not identify the story, the setting or the rest of the cast. For now, the public announcement is a meeting of names and an unusually vivid description.
Suri’s side of the equation is easier to picture in broad terms. His recent romantic drama Saiyaara has been widely discussed, and the film’s pairing of Panday and Padda made music and feeling central to its identity. Varma, by contrast, has spent much of his career linked with urban crime stories and morally rough characters. The new film, if Varma’s phrase is taken at face value, wants both kitchens open at once.

Fans hear echoes of Satya and Company
The reaction came quickly. Several fans asked for the kind of gangster film associated with Varma’s earlier work. One comment imagined Kallu Mama singing “Saiyaara Tu To Badla Nahi Hai,” folding a familiar romantic song into a Varma-style crime world.
