Spider-Man Nears the Force Awakens Record, Not Endgame’s
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ held the domestic box-office crown for a sixth weekend and is closing on North America’s unadjusted record. Its $2.4 billion global run is extraordinary, but ‘Avengers: Endgame’ remains safely ahead worldwide.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ remained No. 1 at the domestic box office for a sixth consecutive weekend, earning an estimated $18 million from Friday through Sunday on September 4-6. Sony projected $23.3 million across the four-day Labor Day frame, according to Good Morning America. That puts Destin Daniel Cretton’s film within striking distance of the unadjusted North American record held by ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ — a result that matters far more than another routine weekend win.
The distinction is important: ‘Brand New Day’ is nearing the domestic record set by ‘The Force Awakens,’ not one held by ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ Deadline reported that the Spider-Man sequel would reach about $923 million domestically through Monday, leaving $13.66 million between it and ‘The Force Awakens’ at $936.66 million.
Spider-Man Has Owned the Domestic Chart for Six Weekends
Six weekends at No. 1 is rare territory even for a superhero film built to dominate multiplexes. Good Morning America reported that ‘Brand New Day’ is only the second movie this decade to manage the feat, after ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ in 2022.
The run began with a record already falling. International Business Times Australia, citing Deadline, reported a $360.1 million opening from 4,487 North American theaters, narrowly passing the $357.1 million debut of ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ It then took ‘Brand New Day’ 36 days to cross $900 million domestically, compared with 50 days for ‘The Force Awakens,’ according to the same report.
Those figures give the sixth weekend its weight. An $18 million three-day gross would look modest beside that opening, but remaining in first place this late means the film has kept collecting while newer releases failed to dislodge it. The superhero event did not vanish after the rush; it settled in.

The Force Awakens Record Is Now the Real Target
Deadline placed the film at $917.8 million domestically through Sunday and projected $923 million through Labor Day. ‘The Force Awakens’ has held the unadjusted North American record at $936.66 million since its 2015 release.
That leaves a small enough gap for the record to feel probable, though the available weekend reporting does not establish the exact day it will fall. International Business Times Australia described the timing as uncertain while noting that several trackers expected ‘Brand New Day’ to pass the mark.
