Avengers: Doomsday Cast Turns Marvel’s Multiverse Into Payroll
Marvel has confirmed a huge Avengers: Doomsday cast for its December 18, 2026 release, with Robert Downey Jr. returning as Doctor Doom and Fox’s X-Men joining the pile. The names are the news, and the list says plenty about what Marvel is selling before the movie can sell itself.

Marvel has put names, faces and old studio baggage around Avengers: Doomsday. As Yahoo reported through Men’s Journal, the film is dated for December 18, 2026, with Robert Downey Jr. returning to Marvel as Doctor Doom and 31 cast members confirmed by the studio so far. For a film reader, that matters because this is not only another Avengers sequel. It is Marvel selling a headcount as an event: MCU regulars, Fantastic Four newcomers and Fox X-Men veterans all pushed toward one giant collision.
Doctor Doom Gets the Roll Call
Downey’s return is the loudest item because it comes with a clean little shock. Marvel made him the face of the MCU as Tony Stark, killed that version off, then brought the actor back under a metal mask as Doom. Yahoo described Doom as a sorcerer from Latveria, and said the official synopsis places heroes from three universes against an existential threat.
That is the Marvel sentence doing the Marvel thing: big nouns, no calories. Three universes. Existential threat. Deadly collision course. It sounds like a poster trying to pass as a plot.
Still, Downey as Doom has the right cheap thrill. It is shameless in the useful way. Marvel is not asking you to forget Iron Man; it is betting you cannot. The casting turns continuity into a stunt and the stunt into the advertising spine.

Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell and the Old Avengers Problem
Yahoo reported that Chris Evans is back for Doomsday, apparently without the Captain America shield, and that Hayley Atwell returns as Peggy Carter. The outlet also reported that one Doomsday trailer indicates Steve and Peggy have a child.
That is a lot to hang on a character whose ending already had ceremonial lighting, old-age makeup and a handed-off shield. Anthony Mackie is also confirmed as Sam Wilson, continuing as Captain America, with Danny Ramirez back as Joaquin Torres, according to Yahoo.
So Marvel gets to have both versions of the brand on the floor: the Captain America who inherited the job and the Steve Rogers who never quite stops being useful to the marketing department. You can see the tension without pretending to know the movie. The report does not say how the film handles that. It only says both are in the mix.
